24R Concert Venue

3/16/23:

Demo Complete

Construction will begin in May, with the theater expecting to open summer of 2024,  Jon Gunton, manager the new theater for Another Planet Entertainment, told NBNA at the March 16 meeting.

Gunton anticipates about 2 to 3 events will be held each week week, with acts ranging from comedy and music to keynote speeches to weddings or bar mitzvahs. He said he was open to the idea of having community events held at 24R when the theater is not in use.

Mobility Plan Next

Gunton said the venue’s city-required event management traffic plan  will be ready for community review soon. That document will lay out mobility plans for how concert-goers will walk, bike, drive and/or ride transit to reach the venue. Because the venue is located within a quarter-mile of a transit stop (actually, it’s on the doorstep of Regional Transit’s light rail), it’s not required to provide parking, but developers said in past meetings they would provide some parking. (These details will be in the forthcoming plan).

Theater Name Ideas?

Gunton said they are hoping to hire locally for positions ranging from ushers to sound and light technicians.

He also said they’re looking for a name, and if anyone has ideas to forward them to us.

Gunton said construction will run 8:30 AM-3:30 PM, including some weekends.

The on-site point of contact for construction is Mason Builders’ Lee Freeman, who can be reached at (916) 970-9878 if any issues during construction, Gunton said.

2/16/23:

Demo to Begin

The developer offered us this update in an email: “Mason Builders has started construction at 1800 24th Street, with demolition expected to occur March through early April. This will be followed by site work and then vertical construction this summer. Normal construction hours will be Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, but a limited amount of work may be necessary on weekends during these same hours.

Demolition will not involve wrecking balls or explosives. Most of the work will be done by an excavator, which will take the building down piece by piece. Most of the construction work will be done within the boundaries of the property, but it may be necessary for traffic controls to be in place for a few days during the construction period.  We hope to minimize disruptions through the course of the project.

Should you need to contact a project representative regarding the construction activity, please contact Lee Freeman with Mason Builders via phone
